Our Story

Built on the Chesapeake, for the Chesapeake

MySailingPlan started where most good sailing ideas do — at the dock, wondering whether tomorrow's a good day to go out.

Hi, I'm Rik

My family sails Aurora, a 1998 Pearson 31-2, out of Tolchester, Maryland, on the upper Chesapeake Bay. Like a lot of families with a boat, our weekends revolve around one simple question: is today a good day to sail? The Bay is shallow, the wind is fickle, and the tide doesn't care about your plans — so the answer is rarely obvious.

I got tired of piecing it together from a half-dozen tabs — one for wind, one for tides, one for the marine forecast — and trying to translate all of it into what it would actually feel like on our boat, in our water. So I started building a tool that did that translating for me. MySailingPlan is the result.

What it does

The whole idea is to answer that one question quickly. Open it up and you get a clear, at-a-glance read on what sailing looks like — today and over the days ahead — so you can decide whether to rig up or relax on the dock.

🌬️

Today at a glance

Wind, tide, and conditions for your home water, read in seconds — not pieced together from five tabs.

📅

The days ahead

A look at the next several days so you can pick the right window for a sail or a longer trip.

Tuned to your boat

Paid plans factor in your boat's draft and details, so the read reflects your vessel — not a generic one.

Where it's headed

MySailingPlan is a labor of love, built and improved as time on the water — and off it — permits. There's a lot more I want to add, and features will keep arriving as I can build them. If you sail the Chesapeake too, I hope it helps you spend less time guessing and more time out on the Bay.

Fair winds,
